Which Witch are you? Salem will tell
Silly me. I wanted to visit the Witch museum, and the House of Seven Gables, of Nathaniel Hawthorne fame. That cannot be easily done in the month of October as the town is overrun by witches and goblins and all things Halloween. The lines are long, the crowds are huge, and the best you can hope for is a decent beer and lunch if you are lucky.
At other times, you have the opportunity to explore a lovely coastal village in Massachusetts with great history. If you are a reader, The Scarlet Letter and the House of Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne would be a great introduction. The actual House of Seven Gables is celebrating its 350th anniversary this year.
Are you a good witch, a bad witch, or even a witch at all?
Do you love Halloween? Does your heart beat faster at the thought of witches cauldrons, spider webs, jack o lanterns, skeletons, and all things ghoulish? Then have I got the town for you. Salem Massachusetts, a town with a unique history related to witches, must be the Halloween capitol of the USA.
We had an enjoyable lunch at the Tavern on the Green at the Hawthorne Hotel. The best part for me was learning the connection to Bewitched (they filmed their Salem episodes there in 1970) and the great bathrooms. On our way out we had amazing ice cream at Captain Dusty’s Ice cream. Yum!
