Where everybody knows your name...
The Village Inn
After a very long day of flying from West to East Coast, and a 4 hour drive from Cleveland to Grand Island, NY, somebody was ready for a quality meal and an adult beverage. The Village Inn, a small restaurant in an old house, nowhere near just about anything was just what Dr. Picasso ordered.
We arrived at that in between lunch and dinner menu time, around 4 pm. This meant we got our choice of both menus and the specials. The host (owner? Manager?) was very friendly and informative. After consulting with his expertise, I chose the haddock, with baked potato and Cole slaw. I had many choices for haddock preparation. I could choose grilled, beer battered, panko or Italian bread crumbs, or Bob’s choice. Bob is “a crazy customer of ours who likes his haddock with tomatoes, Italian spices and mozzarella cheese.”I asked what the best was, and wouldn’t you know it? I ended up with Bob’s haddock, and an honest to goodness baked potato! I chose to drink the Allegheny IPA, the most local of beers. Chris couldn’t resist the spaghetti and meatballs which came with soup, the local flavored lemon Tabasco clam chowder. It was a great meal.
Meanwhile, we felt like we were part of the community. The staff started arriving for the dinner shift. One server was discussing her physics exam on Saturday, another one was talking with a young customer, who apparently had worked there for years before graduating from college, about cutting his hair. She was studying cosmetology and he was willing to be her victim. I loved the young people’s communication. No calling or texting. He, I don’t know your Snapchat. She, you can IM me on Instagram...
The older server and the owner/manager were discussing Bob Seger’s concert, making me wonder if we would get the chance to go!
We were starting to take photos, and a local came up to take our picture. She was very friendly with lots of questions about our RV, where we came from, where we were going.
A Restaurant in a small house that truly feels like home. Great food, and a warm ambience. I can’t recommend it highly enough!
