Sun,Natural Beauty, and Insects

Sun,Natural Beauty, and Insects

After a nice, leisurely drive from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Madison Wisconsin, with a brief Costco stop to replenish supplies, we checked in to the Lark Farm Campground. The Park is a lovely county park, located on hiking trails to rivers, and lakes, and only a 4.1 mile hike to downtown Madison.

Registration proved to be quite entertaining. The Ranger seemed surprised to see anyone (he had the office door closed). I asked him if he had any spots for 2 nights for our RV, and after quite a production of consulting his graph paper hand written registration system, he wrote down about 10 site numbers and told me to check them out. We first chose one site, but discovered that its neighbor was a “friendly” dog who rushed towards us barking and was kept on a very long leash. Not a great plan with Dr. Picasso.

Once we chose the other site, I went back to register. This seemed perplexing to him, and then he told me cash or check, so I had to go get cash from Chris. I asked the rate and he said, well you are too young for the senior discount. I said, depends on what age you use as everywhere is different. My hubby is 61. He said he was 63, so would not consider that a senior discount, but hey , they didn’t train him on this, so senior discount it is. 50 bucks for 2 nights. 3rd time is a charm? I came back with 60 and asked for change. Well, there is no cash box here, and we have no change. Don’t usually see people, they just leave the registration in the box....Ah. Now I got it. Scrounged around to provide exactly 50 dollars, and left him in peace!

We were so excited to hit the beautiful hiking trails that we forgot about our safety. We walked along the trail, spying two beautiful cranes, chipmunks, birds, and so many flowers it seemed like Spring. Without warning, we were both attacked. We fought back valiantly, but received several wounds. I managed to kill two of them. The most vicious one of all did die, but left me covered in my own blood. Mosquitos suck!
