Western Winter Wonderland?
On our return journey we decided we could not miss Colorado, Utah and Idaho. The good news is that the roads were clear, no chains required, and great visibility. The not so great news were the unseasonably cold temperatures with highs in the low twenties and lows in the teens. We were smart enough to wear layers, but not smart enough to know the RV needed layers too. Never fun to wake up to frozen water and sewer hoses! We had used the heated water hose, but that was not even enough to withstand a low of 12!
Lessons learned? Don’t RV in the winter unless you are in Florida or Arizona? Or, plug in a space heater near your hoses. That worked!
In spite of the struggles, driving through the snow covered mountains was a beautiful experience. I never knew cows could eat frozen grass, but they were out there grazing in the snow. Cowboys on horseback? We saw them too. We traveled a stretch of highway 50 dubbed the Loneliest Road in America. We came in on the middle at Austin, NV, so we missed all the fun that is supposed to be along this highway. The few people that lived there just made me wonder, why? How? Lonely it was, but stunningly beautiful too. The snow capped mountains, the ice covered shrubs and trees, and the clear blue skies accompanied us on the seemingly never ending road.
