Hi.

Welcome to our blog. We are documenting our midlife adventure across the USA on the road. Please join us and follow along. We would love to hear from you!

Slow and Easy....

Slow and Easy....

It has been a while since we shared our lessons learned on the road. As two newcomers to the RV scene, we certainly have had no shortage of lessons. Some of them may seem obvious to you . Sure. Now they are obvious to us too. 1) Never pass up a chance to get diesel. Especially in a rural state. Sure, there is a town every 5 minutes in Nebraska, but it could be a hundred or more miles before a fueling station. Thus, the 15 mile return trip to Alliance for fuel, before heading out the second time. 2) You really don’t need reservations during the low season, until you do. Most private parks are very easy to reserve, and also very easy to self check in after hours. However, public parts have annoying websites and recordings, make it very difficult to reserve, and even more difficult to check in at night. If you are going to a park you do not know, have back up plans. We haven’t slept in the Walmart parking lot, yet! 3) When your vehicle and home are the same, count on something going wrong all the time, and make sure one of you is mechanical. Replace the headlight, replace the blinker, replace the outside speaker, clean the carpet...

4) Slow down. No, really, really slow down. This trip is not a race, and we are not trying to see and do everything in every state. We are not towing a car, and we are trying to settle in one place for a few days and actually relax. Sit in our chairs, have a fire, drink our wine, talk over our day, look at the stars...Does this mean that we miss something that everyone thinks we should see or do? Probably. This weekend has been spent near Cedar Rapids, a lovely city with many attractions. We couldn’t get a rental car on Sunday, because they are closed. So, we walked to the box office of the Old Creamery in Amana, bought 2 tickets for the matinee, came back and relaxed with snacks. We are now headed to enjoy some live theatre and walk to dinner in town.

Life is better on the road!
