Not our last stand in Custer

After a very long day of driving, viewing historical monuments, and strolling through the old west, we were in desperate need of sustenance. Black Hills Burgers & Buns is the place to eat in Custer, South Dakota. If you don’t get there right at 5 pm, you will likely have a half an hour wait. We walked in right on time, but there had been people waiting outside so we got one of the last tables.

Is it this popular because good dining options are scarce in Custer, or is it just that good? Probably a bit of both. The neighboring table enjoyed their cheese curd and fried pickle appetizer (I declined...), and we loved our burgers. I had a cheeseburger with mushrooms and Chris had the traditional cheeseburger. I had a locally brewed scotch ale that was just the right pairing. There were a few non beef options, and vegetarian, but this is South Dakota, so the primary options are meat. Local meat. Excellently prepared and tender meat. But meat it is.

A great place to eat if you find yourself in Custer, SD. Just be prepared to drink a beer and wait, unless you are an early bird!
