Hi.

Guero´s Taco Bar

Guero´s Taco Bar

It may seem ironic to have a Tex Mex lunch in a restaurant called Gueros (loosely translated means white people). Irony aside, we had a delicious lunch with al pastor and beef tacos, tamales, and margaritas. Just what the doctor ordered for our tired feet after walking 2.5 miles to and along SOCO in Austin. The place was bustling, the service was efficient and timely, the food was great, and the margaritas were almost too smooth :)

The al pastor pork was definitely Tex Mex and not Mexican. The pork was tender, spicy and topped with pineapple, a touch I had not had before. The tortillas were flour, so clearly reflecting a history of food from Northern Mexico. The range of tequilas in Austin are astounding. I enjoyed “The Don” with Don Julio Silver, Cointreau, and fresh squeezed lime juice. It went down easy, so I refrained from having another!

The restaurant has a long history in Austin, with a great outdoor area and live music. We stumbled upon it without knowing any of its history, and are certainly glad we did.
