Ranger Rick needs an attitude adjustment!
After a crazy long drive through Nebraska, and a late night sleep in Anselmo, NE ( down a long country road and in the middle of nowhere. No internet, few other travelers, and an honor system pay box) we headed off on our 8 hour drive to Cedar Rapids. As beautiful as endless cornfields are, they are endless. The windmills made it clear, even if my poor Chauffeur’s struggles with the steering wheel didn’t, that wind is an every day occurrence.
We had dinner plans with our dear friend Julie, but no campground reservations. First, we headed to the Squaw Creek Park. No vacancy. The Ranger on duty, rhymes with Rick, was not at all helpful. Oh, you wanted a Friday spot? You should have come on Wednesday. Really? Do you have any suggestions? No. So, we tried a state park. All full.
Well, after dinner with our friend, we gambled. Threw the dice. What the heck? We drove back 15 miles to the Amana RV Park in the heart of the Amana Colonies. Hooray. We got a great spot for 3 nights.
