Local theatre in Amana, Iowa
Local Theatre in Amana, IowaToday is Sunday, and Sunday in this part of Iowa is clearly about church and football for most folks. It is also the day for matinees of live theatre of The Old Creamery, a local professional theatre. Today was a lazy Sunday. We cleaned up the RV, had breakfast and coffee, and then walked to the Box Office for tickets to “Comedy of Tenors.” We walked back and enjoyed some Amana Meat Company summer sausage and calico cheese ( a pepper jack like cheese made with white and orange cheddar), and fresh local wheat bread! We walked back to the theatre for the show; we were pretty much the youngest people in the audience :) The atmosphere was lively with couples and groups enjoying a glass of local wine, or a local beer before the show. The theatre even allows the concessions inside the theatre!
The play was well done, and we enjoyed it tremendously. I also enjoyed the intermission when the visitors drank bellinis, wine and beer :) The show ended at 4, but apparently “the game” started at 3:15. There was definitely some lighthearted, yet sincere, grumbling from the men in the crowd.
Afterwards, we strolled back to town for a light dinner at P.H.A.T Daddy which closes at 6 pm on Sunday. A little pizza and salad, with a walk back in glorious sunshine. I can’t say when I have enjoyed a Sunday more. A slice of everyday local life, at a slow pace with a chance to enjoy without worrying about tomorrow. I really could get used to this RV life!
